Is there a doctor recommended shoe for foot injury recovery?
If you’re looking for a doctor recommended shoe for foot injury recovery, there are some variables involved in choosing the right shoes. It depends on the type of your foot injury and if you have been cleared by your foot doctor to wear sneakers. Depending on the type of injury, initially a CAM boot, surgical shoe, or ankle brace may be necessary. Once you are on your way to recovery, generally you may be allowed to transition to sneakers. Post recovery sneakers generally have better than average arch support and occasionally removable insoles, allowing you to use your own orthotics or arch support. In order to find the ideal fit, have both the length and width of your foot measured while you are in a standing position. You may then use that information as a guide to try on shoes. One easy way to determine if the shoe fits is to check if your feet fit within the boundary of the insoles, the shoes are likely to fit well. As a Podiatrist, I recommend the following brands of shoes and sandals.
Here’s our doctor recommended shoe for foot injury recovery.
My favorite sneaker currently is Hoka Bondi. It is a comfortable, supportive, cushioned shoe that delivers a smooth and balanced ride over any distance. Other brands such as Asics and Brooks have multiple lines of sneakers that provide adequate support as well. For runners or people working long hours on their feet, wearing an orthotic in their shoe is extremely beneficial. An orthotic is an insole that fits into shoes to support the tendons and ligaments of your feet. I recommend that you discuss the different types of orthotics with your Podiatrist. Gauld Foot and Ankle will also be able to create custom molded orthotics, which are by far the most superior type of orthotic and are helpful for preventive care and healthy feet. For around the house, my recommendation would be to avoid being barefoot. Oofos or Crocs are great supportive options for the house with multiple different style options for all seasons and climates. If you are recovering well and allowed sandals or flip-flops, Vionics, Naturalizers, and Rainbows make supportive and fashionable options. Supportive sneakers and sandals require a breaking-in period, especially if this is new to you. It generally takes two weeks for your feet to accommodate. I highly recommend wearing supportive sneakers and sandals, and making healthy feet a part of your lifestyle.
